| Description of course contents |
PREPARATION: PARTICIPANTS WILL BE SENT A PRE-COURSE TASK, INVOLVING A NUMBER OF ARTICLES TO READ AND SOME ASSOCIATED TASKS
OBJECTIVES: TO PROVIDE SKILLS AND AWARENESS OF THEORIES AND PRACTICES OF TEAMWORK AND GROUP DYNAMICS, AS WELL AS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FIELD OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR
METHODOLOGY: TRAINING WILL INVOLVE A BALANCE OF THEORY AND PRACTICE, INTRODUCING MAJOR TEAM BUILDING/GROUPWORK LITERATURE AND THEORY WHILE RELATING THEM CLEARLY TO PARTICIPANTS‘ OWN CONTEXT. A NUMBER OF EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITIES WILL ALSO BE WORKED ON AND PROCESSED IN THE GROUP AS A WHOLE. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER AND SHARE THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES AND QUESTIONS.
OUTCOMES: PARTICIPANTS WILL - EXTEND KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF RELEVANT TEAM BUILDING/GROUPWORK THEORIES APPLY THEORY TO PRACTICE DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS IN WORKING IN GROUPS DEVELOP WAYS OF APLYING THIS KNOWLEDGE TO THEIR OWN ROLES AS MANAGERS - INCLUDING TEAM FORMATION STRATEGIES AND WAYS OF ENSURING HARMONIOUS AND EFFECTIVE GROUPWORK IN TEAMS IN THEIR ORGANISATION COMPARE TEAM BUILDING (MICRO-ORGANISATIONAL) THEORIES TO LARGER ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (MACRO-ORGANISATIONAL) THEORIES
FOLLOW-UP: AN ONLINE DISCUSSION GROUP WILL BE ESTABLISHED SO THAT PARTICIPANTS AND TRAINERS CAN CONTINUE TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES AND REPORT ON ACTIONS THEY MAY HAVE TAKEN AS A RESULT OF THE COURSE. |

DAY 1: TEAM WORK TEAM FORMATION, GROUP NORMS, TASK SETTING. DISCUSSION OF ROLES, STAGES IN GROUP FORMATION
DAY 2: FURTHER TEAM WORK AND TASKS ANALYSIS OF THEORY (LADDER OF INFERENCE, GROUPTHINK, ETC) AND DISCUSSION OF APPLICATIONS
DAY 3: TEAM WORK CONTINUES. PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS OF LESSONS LEARNED MORE ANALYSIS OF GROUP DYNAMIC THEORY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, CRITICAL INCIDENTS
DAY 4: CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, THEORY AND PRACTICE TASK COMPLETION
DAY 5: WRAP-UP AND SYNTHESIS OF LEARNING RELATING MICRO ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR TO MACRO ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR ACTION PLANS
