The project partners are institutions from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia.
The project LANGUAGE ON THE MOVE aims to reach people who use public transport(PT) totravel to Baltic and Nordic countries to work, to study or for other purposes and help them to realise the importance of learning the language of a destination country and to accept norms of courtesies and behaviour they should follow while in a country.
Main objectives:
- to involvePT usersinto language and intercultural learning processes using an informal out-of classroom environment such as PT,
- to equip PT users with language learning tool (intriguing eye-catching clips in the DVD format and recordings) for promotingbetter communication,
- to facilitate promotion of less widely used languages such as Baltic and Nordic,
- to stimulate self-learning and LLL,
- to facilitate students and labour force mobility in Baltic and Nordic countries,
- to prepare contemporary society to interact in multilingual and multicultural context,
- to involve transport companies in the process of teaching.
Main steps of the project:
- preparation period and analyses of needs of PT users,
- design and preparation of materials,
- piloting language learning materials on PT,
- dissemination of the project ideas and sustainability.
Main outputs:
- the acquisision of a number of social phrases in the target languages as the initial stage of inteernational communication and integration into a new community.
- phrasebook andDVD in target languages for people traveling through Baltic and Nordic countries.

Final event-international conference “Innovations in Teaching LWUE Languages” of the Nordplus/Horizontal project LANGUAGE ON THE MOVE, which took place in Järfälla NT-Gymnasium, on 16 April 2010 in Järfälla ,Sweden
The Conference aimed:
- to overview the work on the project and present the final project product-DVD and a phrase book and
- to address the development of innovative language teaching methods and promotion of less widely used languages.
Project coordinator and Soros International House director Daiva Malinauskiene and conference hostess Christina Erenvidh greeted the conference participantsfrom Estonia, Lithuania (representatives from Lithuanian Embassy in Stockholm and Education Exchange Support Foundation , LT), Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Poland. Deputy mayor from the municipality Eva Lennström and Gunilla Carlsson, director of NT-Gymnasiet welcomed participants and wished fruitful and succesful run of the conference.
At the beginning there were presentations by key speakers, later on participants split into workshops on
- Innovative projects in promoting language learning
- Innovative language teaching methods, innovations in language teaching
There was a project exhibition organized and conference participants could share their experience and do networking.
"Education. Studies. Career 2010" fair was held in Lithuanian Exhibition and Convention Centre (LITEXPO) on February 4-6, 2010 in Vilnius. Soros International House display included info on language teaching, summer camps and participation in the international projects.
One of the highlights of SIH activities was the presentation of Nordplus/Horizontal project Language on the Move. Posters with photos on the activities of the project invited visitors to take part in the quize and check their knowledge on history, culture and languages of the project partner countries such as Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania , which was intended to stimulate interest in the Nordic and Baltic cultures. The top prize winner of the quiz was awarded free English language course for 2010 spring term.
From Baltic EXPRO 2009, Šiauliai
On November 12, Baltic EXPRO 2009 project fair where visitors could see what the Baltic educational institutions have accomplished with their projects took place in Šiauliai. One could explore fascinating products and results and ask questions directly from the people involved. Fair participants made contacts for finding partners from the Baltic countries and found plenty of great ideas for launching new splendid projects also in Nordplus Framework programme.
SIH participated in the fair with Nordplus/Horizontal project "Language on the Move“ The project aroused interest among fair participants, who represented not only Lithuanian, but Estonian and Latvian institutions as well. They were really impressed by the DVD with learning materials and asked where they could get it. They all confirmed the fact, that such DVD is very useful for self studies.
The Third Nordplus/Horizontal project "Language on the Move" Partners Meeting in Copenhagen, 2009
7-8th November the project partners meeting took place in Copenhagen and was hosted by Danish partners.
It was a very productive meeting. One of the most important issues on the agenda was the presentation of how the campaign was run in partner countries following the sent in advance pre-meeting tasks. As project partners from Estonia, Sweden and Finland ran piloting campaign on board Tallinksilja, travelling on Stockholm - Helsinki, Helsinki-Tallinn, Tallinn-Stockholm, Stockholm-Helsinki, Helsinki-Tallinn routes, each of them presented that part of the trip they had been in charge of. They shared their experience, discussed the problems they had encountered with, impact on TG and others. All were of the opinion, that the campaign had met their expectations and even more than that. Lithuanian partners presented their campaign, which had been run on EuroLines buses.
Project coordinator Daiva Malinauskiene summarized the campaigns and pointed out things Danish partners should take into consideration while preparing for their campaign.
During the second day partners discussed financial issues and dissemination activities. A discussion on the preparation work for the project final event-international conference in Stockholm took place.
A t the end of the second day the results of the work were summed up and partners shared their reflections.
Piloting Campaign

Campaign on board EUROLINES
Project partners from Lithuania launched piloting campaign on board the EUROLINES coach (Vilnius-Tallinn-Vilnius express route) on the 17th August, which will continue till the end of October.
Campaign activities:
Posters with the campaign info in Lithuanian and Estonian are exhibited at the booking offices both in Vilnius and Tallinn and inside two language buses traveling on a Tallinn – Vilnius – Tallinn express route. • At the beginning of each journey the passengers are informed by the driver about the language lessons: “We offer you a possibility to join the Estonian-Lithuanian language lessons while traveling on this coach. We have language lessons in video and you can find leaflets with tasks in your seat pockets. Welcome to our language coach! “ • Prepared demo video with learning materials is run 15 minutes when departing from Tallinn or Vilnius and before the arrival to Tallinn or Vilnius. • Leaflets with tasks and mini-dictionaries are placed in the seat pockets. • The filled in leaflets are collected on the arrival. • Magnets with the project logo are distributed among active campaign participants. • When selling the tickets the passengers are advised on the benefits of the language learning and are invited to travel on the language coach. • Info on the campaign is placed in the newsletter distributed by Eurolines Baltic (www.eurolines.ee)
Campaign on board Tallinksilja
Project partners from Estonia, Sweden and Finland ran piloting campaign and competition on languages on board Tallinksilja, travelling on Stockholm - Helsinki, Helsinki-Tallinn, Tallinn-Stockholm, Stockholm-Helsinki , Helsinki-Tallinn routes on the 5-8th July.
Preparation for the Piloting Campaign

Danish partners are finalizing their negotiations with the SJ (Swedish Railways) and are planning their campaign in September.
May, 2009
1. Demo DVD with language learning materials in target languages (Lithuanian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Estonian) was prepared for the campaign
2.Leaflets with tasks to work onwere designed and printed.
3. Campaign promotional materials-posters, magnets were designed and produced.
February- May, 2009 Swedish partners agreed with the Tallinksilja ferry company in Stockholm to organize the piloting campaign on board Silja. They will be joined by partners from Finland and Estonia. The campaign will be launched at the beginning of July.
Project coordinators together with the recording company-Ltd"Pregunto" from Vilnius, started the work on the production of demo materials-filming and recording of the prepared language learning materials for the DVD, which will be screened on international coaches and ferries. Students from Finland Hanna and Elina, Danish Embassy staff members Louise and Anna, Estonian ladies Anu and Annika, Lithuanian students Gabriele and Adele took part in the recording of the phrases.
Lithuanian partners contacted the TIBUS Eurolines bus company in Vilnius with it ’s head quarters in Tallinn. They expressed their willingness to participate as social partners in the project activities, which correspond to the strategy of the company.
The Second Nordplus/Horizontal project "Language on the Move" Partners Meeting in Tallinn, 2009
28-9thMarch the second project partners meeting took place in Tallinnn and was hostedby Estonian partners.The meeting lasted for two days and it was a very productive one.
During the first day the partners presented their possible social partners and means of transport where the piloting campaign is going to be organized. Then Daiva Malinauskiene, SIH director and project coordinator presented the first version of the DVD with the learning materials to partners. Everybody approved the work done and spent some time finalising the recorded texts.
Having in mind that the number of traveling people increase in summer andstudents orpeople working abroad starttraveling again to the place of their studies or work in autumn, it was agreed to run the piloting campaign in June-October.
During the second day the created project website: www.move-learning.eu was presented as well.
There were suggestions to introduce some new buttons: Cultural tips, which will make the portal more informative and attractive andand User‘s area forproject parters only.
Then partners proceeded to discussing the content of the givebackforms, which will be spread during the camapign, incentives for the participation in the campaign as well as financialissues and dissemination activities.
A t the end of the second day the results of the work were sumed up, the time for the 3rd project partners meeting in Copenhagento sum up the piloting campaign results was fixed

Initial Nordplus/Horizontal Project "Language on the Move" Partners Meeting, Vilnius, 2009
22-24th January the initial Nordplus/Horizontal project "Language on the Move" meeting took place in Vilnius. Project partners from 5 countries Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania took part in it. The aim of the meeting was to elaborate the work plan for the first year, share tasks and responsibilities.
The meeting lasted two days. SIH director Daiva Malinauskienė presented the activities of the project and partners commitments. She emphasized the importance of a good teamwork in the successful realization of the project ideas. The partners looked through the work plan and their individual tasks. Mutual cooperation, understanding, respect and tolerance towards each other are some of the characteristics necessary for a good teamwork.
During the second day project partners continued their discussions on the financial issues, worked on the topics for social phrases and discussed the dissemination policy plan.
The initial meeting was very successful and a good team was formed. Everybody was satisfied with the work done and enjoyed working together.
